I just don't like the idea of burning a whole year of sven's entry level deal on this season. There is no rush getting him into the lineup let the veterans fight for the basement or to get out of the basement and let sven evolve in the AHL

Edit: if his mom is flying in for the game then it would be awesome for him if he could play. The flames are pretty good that way.

He would still burn a year off of his ELC playing in the AHL.

This team is boring to watch and the veterans over the last 3 years have showed they could not get it done. They might as well give the kid a chance. Not to mention if there ever was a game Sven could succeed at, it would be against the young oiler team. Brutal move by the flames.

I'd much rather see Begin go down... Sven and Backlund were looking good together, was hoping that they'd be playing together all year... If they play him with Comeau and Stajan again we'd be better off sending him to the minors before they kill his skill...

not the first time a young player is sat for a game to watch. I'm beginning to think there is a reason teams who play in the fish bowl of hockey mad markets never win

Begin and Combover are more suited to the 4th line then Sven...you can't say they are picking those guys over him its apples and oranges. 48 games in 97 days the lineup is gonna change a lot

i'm glad i wasn't the only one who thought this was totally out of left field and messed up.

granted i haven't watched all the flames games this season but from viewing the game against van, i thought he played well. good if not great. he'll only get better playing with the big boys (especially backlund who i thought was very impressive).

weird stuff. give him minutes and let him play.

(not to troll but you guys aren't a contender so let him develop).

About as good as you can look on a line with Comeau and Stajan.

It's stupid....the whole "he's not a 4th liner" routine isn't a good excuse either. Put him on the second line for all I care, (frank) everyone else. Cammy looks like poop, Stajan and Comeau are on the third line hacking it up out there. You can find 12-15 minutes for Sven...TRUST ME

you guys are getting younger right? shouldn't that mean letting some of the youngsters play?

i know the rationale of sending a player down to the ahl to get more minutes but i don't think it should be impossible to find him minutes with the flames (as you also pointed out).

As far as I was told by management, that was "supposed" to be the plan; rebuild while staying competitive. If I was GM, that would be my plan too. It makes the most sense to me and is far better than the Oilers "plan" (if you can call it a plan). But the key is, you have to integrate the youngsters...why was Comeau re-signed anyway? Begin? Jackman? Stempniak (though he has been good)? i thought the same thing when Brodie was benched for the first game...now he's their best defenceman.

This blows my mind....I hope it's not true.
